Highlands wind farm plan attracts criticism
Demonstrators are preparing to protest against a planned wind farm in Scotland’s Monadhliath Mountains, over fears that the development would ruin the beauty of the region.
Save the Monadhliath Mountains, the campaign group opposed to the development of the Allt Duine windfarm, will hold peaceful demonstrations near to the headquarters of the Highland Council. The group claims that the plan is a “windfarm too far” and that the 31 enormous turbines would detract from the beauty of the spot.
Chris Townsend, the former Mountaineering Council of Scotland president, said, “The proposed Allt Duine wind farm represents one of 11 windfarms that either already exist or are at the planning application stage in the Cairngorms National Park area alone.”
He added that he hoped the council will take note of the “strength of public feeling” against the application. The campaign group is keen for the Highland Council members to visit the proposed site for themselves before agreeing to the application.
Although wind energy can be used to power homes in rural regions, those living off-grid in Scotland may wish to install an oil boiler as a back-up source of heating as heating oil is widely available from Scottish Fuel depots nationwide.
