Care home opts for biofuel for heating

A Scottish residential care home in Aberdeenshire has revealed that it has managed to cut its heating bills by over £6,000 each year by converting its boiler to accept biomass made from wood chips.

Praesmohr House has also managed to cut its carbon emissions by an impressive 53.7 tonnes a year, while achieving a 90 per cent efficiency rate. The care home has also invested in new energy efficient lighting and better insulation to further help to cut its costs.

The project to improve the energy efficiency at the care home was partly conducted by the Energy Savings Trust Scotland.

Buildings such as care homes, schools public buildings can also save money by converting to GreenFlame, which is a fuel that offers a compromise between fuel oil and biofuel, combining them both to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining the performance and reliability that heating oil provides. Greenflame (also known as Ultra35) is available to order from the Scottish Fuels depot in Aberdeen
